Aaron's Leaving IBM

As you may know, Aaron is leaving IBM. Since we wanted to wish him well and see him one last time before he goes, we decided to arrange a lunch for him this Friday, May 29th..

However, since he (and I) are Web 2.0 guys, I wanted to add a Web 2.0 spin on it! So rather than send around a card for people to wish him well and send him a gift, I am setting up this blog!

You can wish him well by commenting on this post and offer him your best wishes! You can also contribute to a gift for him by using the
ChipIn widget on the side!

Thanks for taking the time to visit and contribute. And however you want to do so, please make sure you wish Aaron all the best.

Cheers!

  1. Sorry to see you go! But of course, one of the niec things about 2.0, is that the networks we create follow us well outside corporate boundaries. So I'm sure you'll still "be around" :-D

  2. Aaron,

We interacted very briefly while I was at IBM, but I found your writing and sharing to have been inspiring, thoughtful and I definitely appreciated it when I was a Web 2.0 obsessive among people who'd look at me with a third head when I mentioned it. I had the chance to see it flourish and grow in my (short) time at IBM and from this I know, both firsthand and from dispatches since, that you have been instrumental in it, and it would not be what it is now without your passion! Best of luck and hope that the change in scenery means more and better things that you love in your career and life.

I'm somewhat shocked and sad to see you leave IBM. I just wanted to thank you publically for everything you have done to further Social Software Adoption within IBM (and outside). You truly have been an inspiration for a lot of folks! Wishing you well wherever you go (and yes - I am already following you on twitter...).

  12. The first time I started to prepare a Web2.0 talk, Aaron provided me a lot of material.
Still a lot of the material I am using today comes from him.

Whenever I wanted to read some well-thought contribution, I used to go to Macondo!

All the best Aaron! I wish you great success!

  16. Aaron,

it was always great to get your Web 2.0 communication, and you have inspired and motivated me to explore so many things.. Though we don't know me in person, let me share with you that you have made a great difference and influenced me, and have been a great food for thought for the Web 2.0 related project activities that we had in CS130@ UCLA!

Best of luck -- and keep on rockin' on!

  19. Hi, Aaron -

It is always with mixed feelings when I see someone leaving IBM because I know it to be a home to many outstanding people such as yourself. I am excited to see you move onwards and, undoubtedly, upwards. I've enjoyed our conversations and the various web/Mac meet-ups; I do hope they continue to any extent. Best of luck on the new endeavour! As always, only a couple of taps or a tweet away.

  25. Aaron,
I really can't explain how sad I was to hear that you're leaving IBM. I've always had the upmost respect for you as both a co-worker and a person (even prior to your 2.0 rise to fame ) and know that you will be missed immensely.

I wish you the best of luck as you set out upon your next journey, and know that you'll be sucessful where ever this path takes you.

  26. Aaron,
Hey man. Sorry to see you go. I just heard several people in the external Web2.0 community paying you huge compliments yesterday. Your Web2.0 Anti-Patterns talks left a great mark this year. The social web is an amazing thing. I am glad we finally got to meet IRL at Web2Expo SF this year. Wishing you all the best in your new adventure.

All the best in your new role -- their gain is IBM's loss. You are one of the bright lights that inspire the rest of us. I hope you'll stay in touch and perhaps our professional paths will crisscross in the future.

  31. Aaron,

I am sure you will continue to inspire us, even from beyond the boundaries of IBM.

Thank goodness for social software that lets us keep in touch with folks half way around the world, even when we no longer work for the same company!

Best wishes and good luck in all your future ventures.

  32. Aaron,
Ever since we first started working together on Web2.0 stuff back in December 2005 I have admired how you absorb, adjust and present concepts. There is going to be a huge gap missing at IBM now. Thank you for taking on more than your fair share of all the travelling and presenting. Your dedication really has made a difference. I hope you enjoy your new position and get lots of opportunities to share your great ideas with others.

  33. Aaron,
Sorry to see you go. Wish you luck, good health and good times with your family.

It was great meeting you, and although I did not have the pleasure of working closely with you, I do recognise the quality of your work and your contributions to the Web 2.0 Community. There is no doubt you'll be missed and that you are leaving behind some big shoes to fill.

    All the best!

  34. Aaron, I've enjoyed working with you for a number of years, since the time I was at RBC doing performance work. I recall you were one of the IBMers who went out of their way to show me the ropes. I appreciated that.

I also recall you presenting on podcasts and other such things long before Web 2.0 became such a hot topic!

These are just two small examples of your kindness and your foresight, two qualities among many good qualities that you possess and that anyone who works with you will have the good fortune to experience.

All the best to you, Aaron. I won't really miss you, since we maintain alot of connections via all the social computing tools that we use. But I am looking forward to hearing of your future success.

    Tchau!

  35. Thanks to all of you for the inspiring comments. With the risk of sounding like a Gen Y: you are awesome. Thanks particularly to Bernie for setting up this virtual farewell card, complete with the gift donation widget (you had to have a widget somewhere, eh? :-) ). My initial plan was to donate that raised amount to some charity, but inspired by Jamie Alexander, and just to keep the Web 2.0 angle of this going, I decided to use that to alleviate poverty and help some entrepreneurs around the globe via http://www.kiva.org. I'll post more details later (once Bernie and I figure out how to get the donated amount from ChipIn!!!). Diego and Anirban, sorry, I don't have your contact info. If you are in Twitter, please send me a DM.
